There are four types of licenses available, and you can use the following flow chart to help you determine which one is right for you. Details about each license are given below. There is also additional information in the licensing section of the FAQ page.
|
Professional License
The professional site license is for development studios who have signed with a major publisher (a member of the ESA or ELSPA). This license applies to a single title and must be renewed for additional titles. Companies who wish to use the C4 Engine for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 development must purchase a professional license. Please inquire at info@terathon.com for more information. |
Serious Games License
The serious games license is for companies who wish to use C4 for purposes other than producing a boxed game title of some kind. “Serious games” include things like training simulations and architectural design applications that are intended for internal use at your company or for sale at a price of at least $100 (USD). This license does not expire, and all future updates are included at no additional cost. Please inquire at info@terathon.com for more information. |
Standard License
The standard license is a low-cost solution for independent developers and studios who have not signed with a major publisher. This license does not expire and does not limit the number of titles for which it can be used. All future updates are included at no additional cost. This license can be purchased for $350 (USD) for each person who is to have access to the source code. Team members such as artists, who only need to use the engine as a tool, do not need a separate license. |
Educational License
The educational site license is for academic institutions who wish to use C4 as a teaching tool. This license does not expire, and all future updates are included at no additional cost. This license can be purchased for $2500 (USD) to allow an unlimited number of users. For a small number of students, this license can be purchased for $250 per student. Students who have used the C4 Engine as part of a course at an educational institution are eligible for a 50% discount on their own standard license. Please inquire at info@terathon.com for ordering instructions. We accept purchase orders. |
Each C4 Engine license includes all of the following:
- The complete source code for the C4 Engine.
- The source code for the demo and sample game modules.
- The source code for the all of the tools, including the World Editor and import tools.
- Project files for Visual Studio 7/8 (Windows) and Xcode 2 (Mac).
- Access to private forums where you receive support directly from the engine programmers.
- Full access to the C4 Engine wiki with editing privileges.
- The C4 Engine API documentation.
All license types include free updates forever. The professional license reverts to a standard license after a game title has been shipped and must be renewed for another game.
